For decades, Jerusalem has been menaced by dangerous enemies who cannot accept the return of the Jews to the Holy City. They threaten Israel’s removal by political force, terrorist attacks and neighboring Arab armies.
The Holy City of Jerusalem is the heart of the world’s religions and is the eternal capital of the Jewish people, as well as one of the most historically disputed dominions on the globe. Events that occur in Jerusalem have rippling ramifications that can be felt all across the world.
In addition to its unrelenting Islamic enemies, international bodies such as the United Nations and the International Criminal Court also wage campaigns that threaten Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem. Even decades after its return to Jewish sovereignty few nations will recognize the city as the capital of the nation of Israel, delegitimizing Jerusalem’s historic, religious and cultural central role in Jewish society.
Illegal land appropriation by the Palestinians, which are funded by Arab and European governments, threatens Jewish control over the land and leads to the desecration of holy places and the destruction of historical heritage sites.
This illegal land grab includes the unauthorized construction of homes and other structures built without permits, a rapidly escalating problem in the neighborhoods of East Jerusalem with a 900% increase in illegal Arab construction since 2005.
Thousands of illegal buildings are erected in East Jerusalem annually. Nearly one-third of all homes built in East Jerusalem are constructed without obtaining proper building permits.
The Municipality of Jerusalem has used eviction and demolition orders to combat this illegal activity. Frequently, they face international pressure and global condemnation for simply upholding the law.
Enforcement of planning and zoning regulations is the sole duty of local government officials. Their action or inaction in the light of international pressure must be monitored so that they may be held accountable.
“We shall enter Jerusalem – Millions of fighters!” – PA President Mahmoud Abbas August 23, 2019
Jerusalem has been used as a catalyst in the incitement of violence and terrorism against Israel and the Jewish people worldwide by Arab, Islamic, Third World and other antisemitic regimes.
Terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as the Iranian regime, have used the “liberation” of the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the symbolic prize of armed hostilities against Israel.
The capture of Jerusalem and Temple Mount has been used as a rallying call to encourage violence against Israel and the Jewish people.
This propaganda and incitement have led to horrific terrorists plotting attacks against Israelis and the Israel Defense Force. The terrorist groups seek to establish an Islamic army in Jerusalem and conquer Temple Mount.
They rely on a false narrative established decades ago that denies the Jewish people’s historic and religious rights to the city and the land.
“Liberation of the al-Quds and all other Palestinian territories from the Israeli occupation is the main goal of the Islamic world.” – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani October 4, 2019
Biblical sites including the Western Wall, Temple Mount, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are within walking distance of each other inside the fortified walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.
Archeological sites all around the municipality have uncovered discoveries that have affirmed our beliefs and helped us to understand the world’s religion, history and society in more depth.
The city of Jerusalem has been a central pillar of religious faiths since ancient times.
And since those times, temples, synagogues, churches, religious scrolls, and sacred artifacts have been and continue to be desecrated by tyrant governments, enemies, invading armies and modern political forces.
I swear to God, I will see [the Palestinian state], whether as a martyr or alive. Please, God, give me the honor of becoming a martyr in the fight for Jerusalem. –
PLO Leader Yasser Arafat As quoted at OneJerusalem.org (21 January 2002)
“There is a reasonable basis to believe that war crimes have been or are being committed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem . . . ” – International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which is ironically mandated with the duty of safeguarding all the world’s heritage sites has been particularly dangerous in its approach to the Judeo-Christian narrative and leads the campaign to delegitimize Israel and reject the Jewish people’s connections to the Land.
The threat of destruction continues today. The vandalization and devastation of historical sites will not stop until legal action is taken to secure and protect them.
If we are indifferent to the political, and physical threats to Jerusalem, its security, wellbeing and fate will remain challenged and uncertain.
